The Story:
What if Montrose didn't have to send its artists somewhere else to make it?
That's the question Edgar Quiroz —better known as EQ—is trying to answer.
After coming to Colorado from Guadalajara, Mexico, Edgar built La Familia Music Group around four simple ideas: Love, Family, Motivation, and Greatness. What started in music production grew into a nonprofit Music Academy giving local youth free opportunities to explore music, podcasting, graphic design, entrepreneurship, and other creative skills.
But Edgar isn't just building opportunities for young people. He's thinking bigger about what Montrose itself could become.
Enter Common Ground—a three-day, free music and arts festival designed to bring people together while showcasing what Montrose has to offer. With everything from hip-hop and eclectic sounds to Americana and bluegrass, plus local artists, food trucks, a car show, downtown events, and afterparties, the goal is bigger than putting on concerts. It's about creating momentum.
Edgar sees a future where Montrose becomes a cultural incubator—a place where artists and entrepreneurs can build something meaningful without feeling like they have to leave for a bigger city.
And perhaps the most important lesson from his story isn't about music at all. Edgar believes you don't always need a pile of money to start building something. Sometimes, your first real capital is the people willing to believe in the idea and help you make it happen.
The one thing listeners will take away: A community doesn't become a destination by accident. It happens when people decide to build something worth staying for—and invite everyone else to help build it.
